Guri (Petraq) Madhi was born in the city of Korça (Albania) on May 15, 1921.

He finished his studies at the “Ilia Riepin” Institute (Academy of Fine Arts) in Saint Petersburg (Russia) during the period 1951-1956, with excellent results.

Guri Madhi is one of the founders of the Albanian Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He passed away in Budapest (Hungary) in June 1988.

For his activity in fine arts,  Guri Madhi is honoured by the President of Albania with the Order “Naim Frasheri” – first class in 1972. In 1976, Guri Madhi was given by the President of Albania the title “People’s Artist “, the most important title and the biggest recognition for an artist. In 1989, in his honour, the Art Gallery of his hometown Korça was named after him as Gallery “Guri Madhi”.

In 2009, his name was chosen by the people of Pogradec as one of the 100 personalities in Europe, names of whom are mentioned on the Boulevard “100 steps towards Europe” in Pogradec-Albania.

One street in Tirana (Capital of Albania) is called “Guri Madhi”.
