Part of the illustrations of two books by Sergio Carbone, are the works of the painter Guri Madhi. Italian author Sergio Carbone has selected 13 works for the book “Missing Victory” (with the theme of Albania) and 7 works for the book “Double Victory” (with the theme of Kosovo). These books are published by the publishing house Effigi, Italy.
In August 2020, the University of Oxford, Great Britain, published Sir Noel Malcolm’s book “Rebels, believers, survivors”. For the cover of the book, Guri Madhi’s artwork “Malesori” has been chosen, a painting which is located in the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana. In a commentary on the book Sir Noel Malcolm explained his choice and described Guri Madhi as a brilliant painter. In addition to the English edition, the book has been translated into Albanian and has since gained great success.
From July 7 to November 22, 2020, in the wellknown Pera Museum in Istanbul, Turkey, the exhibition of Albanian artists “Constructing a dream”, curated by Artan Shabani, opened its doors to the publicum. Guri Madhi was presented with 8 works, among which the “First meeting”, “When we do not go to the stadium”, “Demonstration of Korca”, “Gracen”, etc. Despite the limitations caused by the pandemic, the exhibition woke a great interest to the local and foreign public, being visited by over 50,000 visitors. All Turkish electronic and print media widely covered and appraised the exhibition.
The residency of the Italian Embassy in Tirana has opened its doors to the exposition “Visione di confini” (17 October – 31 December 2018). As the title suggests, the theme of this exposition is the artistic bond between the two countries, beautifully represented with artworks of authors who have received an education based on the Italian school of Fine Arts.
Ibrahim Kodra, Lin Delija, Vangjush Mio, Foto Stamo and Abdurrahim Buza are among the 13 artists to participate. One of them is also Guri Madhi, who has attended the Italian technical school of Korca (Scuola Tecnica Italiana) for three years (1934-1936), specialising in the discipline of drawing. He would later continue his education in the Academy of Saint Petersburg in Russia (1951-1956).The displayed Guri Madhi’s artworks are 5:-Woman wearing a traditional dress from Korça (1956)-Abstraction (1961)-Composition (1966)-When we can’t go to the stadium (1986)-The student (1988)
